Dear parents, families, students, and community members,
Thank you to all those who came along to celebrate a fun and successful Term 1 at our assembly on Wednesday. I think Cooper and Lachlan summed it up beautifully when they said:
“We have had an amazing first Term of the year, full of excitement. Swimming, NAPLAN, Swan Vs Oyster, SPSSA, A Little Athletics visit, the bKinder leadership conference, an orchestra performance, the new GaGa Ball pit, free dress day, Brixhibition, and new signage around the school. Even with this all going on, we still have time to notice and celebrate some amazing students.”
Teachers and Teacher Assistants have done an amazing job of facilitating the new UFLI (Early and Middle Primary) and Word Origins (Upper Primary) programs with our students this Term. UFLI is an explicit and systematic phonics program that introduces students to the foundational reading skills necessary for proficient reading. The next step after UFLI is Word Origins. This spelling and word study program is designed to provide spelling, reading, and vocabulary instruction. Feedback for Teachers and students has been positive, and we are already seeing gains in learning.
Some other news shared at assembly was that the Easter Raffle organised by the Student Leaders raised over $1300! Thank you to Swansea Primary families, local businesses and community members for making it happen. Congratulations to the 6 prize winners.
More good news! There are 104 schools and Child and Family Learning Centres around Tasmania that have been approved for playground and sports court upgrades. We can confirm that Swansea Primary School has been successful in receiving a $50,000 grant to upgrade our netball/basketball court. Our school is on the list to have this start sometime in 2025 or 2026. Another win for Swansea Primary is that we will be receiving a Remote Sporting Schools grant of $10,000 to increase sporting programs for Terms 2 and 3 at school.
Can I remind families and students to please take extra care in our car park. There has been a couple of close calls reported, so please be cautious when reversing, only drive at a walking pace and make sure that it is safe before letting your child out of the car.
Have a great Autumn break. let’s hope the weather stays just right for camping adventures.
See you in Term 2!
